2nd Ahoghill hosted reigning champions 1st Knocknamuckley in the opening round of this year's national table tennis competition.
It wasn’t until they arrived that we learned we were actually facing Knocknamuckley’s B Team. But despite not being the boys who had triumphed in the final they still proved to be three highly skilled players.
As we had four boys wanting to take part, the leaders of both Companies agreed on a series of nine matches that would accommodate this. Essentially three of our boys would play two matches, and one boy would play three matches. The table below shows the results.
| 1st Knocknamuckley | v | 2nd Ahoghill | Result | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Match 1 | Christian | v | Jonah | 1-3 |
| Match 2 | Tim | v | Thomas | 3-0 |
| Match 3 | Ewan | v | Noah | 3-0 |
| Match 4 | Tim | v | Stephen | 3-0 |
| Match 5 | Ewan | v | Jonah | 1-3 |
| Match 6 | Christian | v | Thomas | 3-0 |
| Match 7 | Ewan | v | Stephen | 3-0 |
| Match 8 | Christian | v | Noah | 3-0 |
| Match 9 | Tim | v | Jonah | 3-2 |
Some of the scorelines don’t quite reflect how tight the games were, with our boys narrowly missing out on points after tense rallies on multiple occasions. However in the end the final result was 7 matches to 2 in favour of 1st Knocknamuckley. Congratulations on your victory, it was a pleasure having you with us. We wish you all the best as you continue in the competition.
