Ballymena Battalion Parade 2018
2nd Ahoghill BB Company took part in the annual Ballymena & District Battalion parade, which was hosted by Connor Presbyterian church.
This was the first of a newly scheduled parade. We met with the boys at the church hall, before traveling into Kells to meet up with the other companies from the battalion. The parade assembled in the playing fields just outside Kells before setting off shortly before 3:00pm.
After turning left onto the Station Road we continued to the end of the road and turned left onto Main Street. We marched along Main Street and concluded as we turned right into Connor Presbyterian for the church service.
The service was led by the Rev. Philip Thompson, and began as John Kernohan was welcomed to his new post as Battalion President. After a few words from John accepting his appointment, the Scripture awards were presented, with 1st Cullybackey earning the Company Section scripture shield. Due to the new parade date, individual awards had been passed on to each company to be handed out at their own display.
Unfortunately we didn’t receive the awards until after our 51st Annual Display in March, but did present them to the boys during our first parade night of the 2018/19 session a few weeks ago.
Rev. Thompson then brought a short Bible message to the boys, based around football teams, with his least favourite team Manchester United being a key part of his message.
After the service, the parade formed up in the church carpark before starting the return leg. We marched back along the route we had come, during which Battalion President John Kernohan took the salute on Main Street. Unlike the dry first leg of our parade there was a little drizzle on our return, but it didn’t dampen the spirits of the boys. The parade concluded back in the playing fields, after which the colours were marched off.
Many thanks to the boys who attended the parade and to all those who came out to watch, your support is always appreciated.
