Ballymena Battalion Parade 2015

News |

2nd Ahoghill BB Company participated in this year's battalion parade, which took place in Harryville.

We met with the boys at the church hall, before traveling into Ballymena to meet up with the other companies from the battalion. The parade assembled just off the Wakehurst Road in Brooke Park, before setting off shortly before 3:00pm.

After turning left onto the Wakehurst Road we continued to the mini roundabout and turned right onto Queen Street. We marched along Queen Street and turned right onto the Larne Road via Gilmore Street.  The first leg of parade concluded as we made our way up Casement Street and into Harryville Presbyterian for the church service.

The service was led by the Rev. Eddie Chestnut, during which the battalion level awards were presented for the scripture exam. For the second year running, company member John Lyttle came 3rd in his age group and received gift vouchers for the Faith Mission Book Shop in Ballymena.

This year’s guest speaker was Mr Michael Donnely, he spoke to the boys about how the cross is the ‘logo’ of Christianity, and reminded them of the importance it has.

After the service, the parade formed up in the church carpark before starting the return leg. We marched back along the route we had come, during which Mayor of Ballymena Audrey Wales MBE took the salute on Gilmore Street. The parade concluded on the Wakehurst Road, after which the colours were marched off.

Many thanks to the boys who attended the parade and to all those who came out to watch, your support was much appreciated.
