A visit from VisPa

News |

2nd Ahoghill Company Section's canoes welcomed their first international passenger as we spent the evening canoeing at Newferry with former VisPa student Sam Ochieng.

Brookside Presbyterian Church has a strong connection with Vision and Passion Centres (VisPa), an education-focused Christian mission in western Kenya.

Sam, son of VisPa founder Hellen Ochieng, was part way through a three week visit to Northern Ireland, and we took the opportunity to invite him out in the canoes.

We launched from the canoe steps at Newferry and completed the familiar journey to Corker Island at the mouth of Lough Beg. The clear skies and sunshine helped Sam feel more at home as we explored the island and surrounding shallows, before paddling back to Newferry.

It was a fun night for all, as the leaders enjoyed Sam’s company and learned more about his experiences back home in Kenya.
