Captains on deck!

News |

Former company captains James Young and Ian Young joined us for a day of canoeing, as we returned to Church Island.

The canoes set off from Newferry on the 4km journey towards Church Island. Aided by the wind, we made record time; completing the first leg of our trip in under an hour.

We were met onshore by Jonathan and Jonnie, who had driven from Newferry and walked across wetland to access the island. After exploring the grounds of the church, we ate our lunch and gathered our energy for the return trip.

The second leg of the journey was considerably more difficult than the first, as we battled against the strong winds on the open waters of Lough Beg.

With our progress coming to a standstill in the middle of the lough, we headed to the shallower waters on the western bank and slowly skirted our way towards Newferry.

After a challenging but thoroughly rewarding three and a half hour return journey, we eventually made it back onto dry land.
