DofE Bronze 2018: Practice Hike #2

News |

2nd Ahoghill Company Section returned to the Antrim Hills to complete another practice hike ahead of this summer’s Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award expedition.

The hike was another chance for boys to test themselves and their gear, and an opportunity for any boys who missed our previous practice a few weeks before.

We were joined by a fellow BB member from 1st Portglenone Company, and followed a similar route to our last outing.

Starting at Dungonnell Dam, we walked south-east across the heather of Mid Hill, before heading north-east to Collin Top. The area bustling with wildlife. From birds and beetles to insects and frogs.

After taking in the views from the summit, we descended Collin Top via the western edge of Loughgarve onto the Dungonnell Road. We followed the winding tarmac back to Dungonnell Dam to complete our route.

It was a challenging hike with the hot sun overhead and the heather underfoot, but a worthwhile day spent in the beauty of God’s creation.
