DofE Bronze 2018: Practice Hike

News |

Four boys from 2nd Ahoghill Company Section overcame the heat and humidity to complete a challenging hike in the Antrim Hills.

The hike acted as the practise expedition required by Duke of Edinburgh which will allow the boys to undertake their Bronze qualifying expedition planned for the end of summer.

The group were dropped off at Dungonnell Dam, and made their way south-east to Mid Hill. From there they headed north-east to Collin Top, to stop for lunch and take in the views. On their descent they passed the waters of Loughgarve as they made their way on to the Dungonnell Road, before following it east towards their finishing point.

The leaders were waiting at Loughnaweelan, at the south-west edge of Glenariff Forest. The small sheltered lake offered the perfect way to cool off and finish the day. After spending some time playing in the water, the group returned to the cars and headed home after another day well spent in the great outdoors.
