Antrim Hills Practise Hike

News |

Six boys from 2nd Ahoghill Company Section scaled one of the Antrim Hill's highest peaks, as they completed a practice hike around Dungonnell Reservoir.

Following the previous night’s scavenger hunt, the boys had camped out in preparation for the day’s hike. It began in Glenariff Forest park, about 1km north-northeast of Dungonnell Dam.

The route followed an access road east about 2km, before taking a bearing across the heather towards Collin Top. The views from the summit were spectacular, especially when contrasted against the bright blue sky.

After a quick bite to eat, we set off on the return leg of our journey. Heading down the western side of the hill and skirting along the banks of Dungonnell Reservoir until we reached the dam. We completed the hike by crossing the dam wall to reach the carpark on the other side, where our lifts home awaited.
