Coaching4Christ visit 2nd Ahoghill Company Section

News |

2nd Ahoghill Company Section enjoyed another night of football coaching, as two members of Coaching4Christ took this week's PE session.

Coaching4Christ are a sports ministry organisation based in Ahoghill, who aim to see lives and communities transformed by Christ through sport.

Coaches David Quaite and Kirsty McCullough, who oversee the C4C development centre in Carrickfergus, began the session by splitting the boys into teams for the coaching drills.

This first drill was called Colour Stations, and tested the boys’ hand-eye coordination and agility. Each team was stationed in a corner of the hall, behind a set of coloured cones. The first member of each team had to touch the cones in the order randomly selected by the coaches, before racing to the middle of the hall and attempting to score in the opposition’s goal.

Next up was Football Tennis. Instead of using rackets, the boys had to rely on their football skills to get the ball over the net. Each team played each other once before moving on the next drill.

Handball is usually something footballers try to avoid. However the next drill incorporated the sport of handball, which requires players to use their hands to pass and shoot. It is an ideal tool for encouraging players to always be on the move and looking for a pass.

After completing a few more drills, we took a break from the action to listen to a short Bible talk by one of the coaches. David read from God’s Word and shared with the boys how his own life has been transformed by Christ since accepting Him as saviour. After the talk, we finished the night’s P.E. with a series of short matches; allowing the boys to put the skills they had learned into practise.
