Four boys completed a practice for the expedition phase of their President's Badge this weekend, as they hiked and camped out around Glenariff Forest.
Gary, John and Michael met at the church hall on Friday afternoon, where the leaders helped check their kit and pack their rucksacks before heading out towards Glenariff. The boys were dropped off at Newtown-Crommelin, about 5 miles from their camp site, and began the first leg of their expedition.
Paul was unable to make the earlier time, but travelled to Glenariff after the normal parade night and met up with the boys at camp.
Saturday
On Saturday morning the boys arrived at a rendezvous point, where the leaders were waiting to load their kit into the car. Due to the wet conditions and poor visibility, the leaders had decided to cut the expedition shorter than originally planned.
After navigating a route through the forest, we transported the boys back to the church hall to unload their rucksacks and begin drying the wet kit.
With plenty of time before their parents arrived to collect them, the boys treated themselves and the leaders to the leftover food. We enjoyed a late lunch of bacon butties and sausages, followed by some chocolate cake the boys bought in the village.
