2nd Ahoghill exited this year's national Senior 5-a-Side Football competition, after a disappointing opening group stage.
The matches were played at the Valley Leisure Centre in Newtonabbey, and were hosted by 1st Granshaw company.
Match 1 – 1st Granshaw
Ahoghill made a poor start, as we faced a well drilled Granshaw side in the opening game. Unable to retain possession, we gave away several cheap goals and struggled to create chances of our own – our first shot on target coming mid way through the second half. The final score, a deflating 9-0 to 1st Granshaw.
Match 2 – 1st Broughshane
Our second opponents were fellow Ballymena Battalion members, 1st Broughshane. We got off to a great start, converting an early penalty to take the lead in what would be a closely fought game. Despite looking the likelier to win at one point, Ahoghill conceded a few late goals to eventually lose 5-3.
Match 3 – 3rd Kilkeel
We played 3rd Kilkeel in our final game. With nothing but pride to play for, the boys started well; pressing the opposition as a team and creating some well worked attacks. However their concentration slumped as the game went on, allowing themselves to bow out with a 4-1 defeat.
This left us bottom of the group table, and meant that 1st Granshaw and 3rd Kilkeel would progress through to the next round of the competition.
