The President's Badge boys continued their voluntary work this week, by helping to tidy up one of the storage areas in the church hall.
Due to the wet and windy conditions outside, we decided to stay indoors. We had identified several jobs inside the church hall for days such as this, the first of which was organising the storage area under the stage in our main hall.
Various organisations within the church, including the Boys’ Brigade, use the area to store their equipment; meaning a wide range of items were waiting to be discovered. These included spare tables and chairs, various toys and games for the creche, as well as the BB’s own sports and PE equipment.
Like any storage area, it had become a little cluttered throughout the years and was in need of attention. The boys began by removing all the equipment from under the stage and placing it onto the floor of the main hall.
We were pleasantly surprised to find an information board that had been made to advertise a summer camp the Company Section had undertaken in 1971. The camp took place in Port Erin on the Isle of Man, and lasted ten days between Tuesday 3rd and Friday 13th August. The price was listed as £8, which equates to just over £110 in today’s money, making the camp a fairly significant event for those taking part.
With the equipment removed from under the stage, the leader’s positioned and fixed two metal brackets to the back wall to allow shelving to be attached at a later date. The recent refurbishment of the church meant there was an excess of old carpet, so we decided to take this opportunity and put it to good use by covering the cold cement floor under the stage.
After identifying the equipment that could be be disposed of, we completed the day’s work by packing the remaining items into their newly decorated home under the stage.
