Family and friends gathered in Brookside Presbyterian Church hall to watch the boys of 2nd Ahoghill BB Company perform their annual display.
The Rev. William Moody welcomed those in attendance, and the boys and leaders marched into the hall for the opening praise. The BB Anthem “Will Your Anchor Hold” was sang and the evening was committed to God in prayer, after which the Company exited the hall again in preparation for the display items.
Drill Down
The first item was a drill down by the Company and Seniors, with Captain William Young giving the commands to test the boys’ marching skills. Each boy who made a mistake was dismissed from the squad until only one remained. The final boy would be presented the Drill Cup at the Award Distribution later in the evening.
The Beatitudes
The Juniors followed with a some team games. Firstly a race to find a series of memory verses which had been hidden around the main hall. Once assembled the verses displayed the Beatitudes, a series of sayings taught by Jesus during the Sermon on the Mount. Next the two teams competed in a game of tug and war to complete their item.
Super Heroes
Next up were the Anchors, who donned their superhero costumes for an action packed PE item. Two teams of boys raced head to head through a series of obstacles, to rescue two members of the audience who had been tied up on chairs at the front of the hall.
The Good Samaritan
The Company and Seniors continued the focus on the Beatitudes, specifically “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy”. The boys dressed up to perform a sketch based on the parable of the Good Samaritan. The item concluded with a video explaining the heavenly meaning of the earthly story.
Rev. Moody congratulated the boys on their performances and gave a short Biblical message, before assisting with the distribution of awards recognising the boys’ efforts during the past year.
