50th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service

News |

2nd Ahoghill Boys' Brigade gave thanks for 50 blessed years, as they held a special anniversary service in Brookside Presbyterian Church.

Rev. William Moody welcomed those in attendance before asking them to stand as the colours were received. The flags were carried by Company Section members Ben Maxwell and Adam Millar, who were accompanied by John Lyttle, Gary McDowell, Jacob Loughridge and Ross McGeehan.

The opening praise was Lord for the Years and was followed by a prayer by Rev. Moody; after which Hebrews 6 v13-20 was read by Houston Gordon, one of 2nd Ahoghill’s first officers.

Junior Section officer Mike Arnold then interviewed Leader in Charge of Company Section Jonathan McCartney and former Company Captain James Young. Both men spoke of the memories, challenges and encouragements they have experienced throughout their involvement with the Boys’ Brigade.

The second Bible reading, Mark 4 v35-41, was read by Adam Millar. After which the congregation sang Faithful One, followed by the collection of the offering.

Roy McDowell, an elder in Brookside Presbyterian Church, led in prayer before the members of 2nd Ahoghill Company formed a choir to sing 10,000 Reasons.

The congregation sang O Church Arise, before Rev. Moody gave a short address.

After the singing of the BB anthem Will Your Anchor Hold, the colours were returned and the service concluded. Rev. Moody invited the congregation to stay for the soup lunch that had been organised in the church hall.

Many thanks to the ladies for their help with the catering and floral arrangements.
