50th Anniversary Dinner

News |

2nd Ahoghill Boys' Brigade celebrated their golden jubilee, as past members and officers joined together for an anniversary dinner in Ross Park hotel.

Current captain William Young welcomed the guests and thanked them for coming before handing over to David Bell, brother of former captain Thomas Bell, to say grace.

William then invited Elizabeth Shaw, one of 2nd Ahoghill’s first officers onto the stage to cut the cake ahead of the meal being served.

After the meal, William Livingstone recited a poem highlighting memorable moments from our history; before speeches were given.

Hugh Keery shared his memories of our founding captain Stanley Gordon, having served as an officer with him in 2nd Ballymena. Former captain James Young spoke of his time in the 2nd Ahoghill, from his early memories as a boy to his transition into leadership.

The guests were then invited to say a few words, with a selection of past and present members and officers sharing memories of their time in the Company.

Former officer Gary McLaughlin then hosted a short table quiz set on a range of topics with a BB theme.

The night came to a close with the presentation of a video showcasing photos from the past 50 years.

Many thanks to those involved with the planning of the night’s events and to everyone who attended, all of which contributed to an enjoyable and memorable night.
