The boys of 2nd Ahoghill BB Company put on a show for their parents, family and friends during their annual display in Brookside Presbyterian Church hall.
After a welcome from Rev. William Moody, the boys and leaders marched into the hall and joined the audience to sing the opening praise “Will Your Anchor Hold”. Rev Moody committed the rest of the evening to God in prayer, and after the Company had exited the hall the display items got underway.
Drill Down
The Company and Seniors returned to the hall for a drill down, to test their marching skills with a series of commands given by Captain William Young. Any boys who made a mistake were dismissed until only one boy remained to claim the Drill Cup at the Award Distribution later in the evening.
Messy Business
Next up were the Juniors. The boys competed in teams of two in a series of messy games involving balloons, confetti, shaving foam, sweets and ice cream. The leaders didn’t escape the mess as the boys cracked eggs over their heads. The team with the most points at the end were awarded a bag of sweets each.
Karate Kid
The Anchor Boys burst into the hall in their martial arts kit and showed off their Jui Jitsu skills with some punching, kicking and grappling moves. The item concluded with a summary of the Ten Commandments which they had learned during the year. Just as Jui Jitsu has rules which should be followed, God has given us rules to show us how to love and respect Him and one another.
Brookside Builders
The Company and Seniors were next with a DIY themed item. Two teams competed head to head to connect an electrical circuit, hammer in a series of nails, and build a wooden house – one on rock and one on sand. Once the houses were complete their foundations were tested with the help of a watering can, unsurprisingly the sand was quickly washed away and that house fell flat.
The item concluded with a video about the parable of the Wise and Foolish Builders.
Rev. Moody remarked on the night’s activities and gave a short messaged based on the life of Eric Liddell, an Olympic athlete and Christian Missionary. He remained on stage to assist with the award distribution which rewards the boys for their efforts over the past session.
