2nd Ahoghill Company Section competed in the Irish Final of this year’s Masterteam competition, which was hosted by 1st Ballymoney.
Northern Ireland’s top eight teams made up the final, with our opponents including 1st Ardstraw, 1st Ballymoney, 100th Belfast, 1st Broughshane, 1st Cookstown, 1st Greenisland and 4th Newtownabbey A.
The quizmaster for the night was Steven White, with Walter Lambe acting as score keeper.

The team started well, gaining full marks in Rounds 1 and 3 and justifying the time they spent reading in preparation. Rounds 2 and 4 both returned a commendable six points, followed by an excellent score of nine in Round 5.
The boys’ form dipped a little in the remaining rounds but they managed to keep pace. There were dramatic moments as a few answers were challenged, and after review the affected teams were awarded their marks.
A consistent second half performance left Ahoghill in third place going into the final round. Unfortunately, a disappointing return of 3 points meant the boys narrowly missed out on progression, finishing in third place with a score of 68.
Congratulations to 4th Newtownabbey A and 1st Ardstraw who will represent Ireland in the National Finals on 18th April.
Well done to our own boys for their performance throughout the competition, they may be disappointed but can be proud of finishing third in all of Ireland. Thank you to Joel and Matthew for attending the final at short notice.
