Annual Display 2023

News |

2nd Ahoghill BB Company put on an action packed performance for parents, family and friends during their annual display in Brookside Presbyterian Church hall.

It was our first proper display since the scaled back version we held in March 2020. The Rev. William Moody welcomed those in attendance, after which the boys and leaders marched into the hall for Fall In. The opening praise “Will Your Anchor Hold” was sung and an opening prayer was given, before the boys and leaders exited the hall ahead of the display items.

Drill Down

The Company Section returned to the hall for a drill down, during which the boys’ marching skills were tested with a series of commands. Any boys who made a mistake were dismissed from the squad until only one boy remained to claim the Drill Cup.

Going on a Bear Hunt

Next up were the Anchor Boys, who had to overcome various obstacles as they went in search of a bear. They navigated their way through mud and water, over a bridge, through a squeaky gate and some tall grass to find the bear in a cave. The item concluded with a reminder that God has promised to be with those who trust Him during the trails of life.

Dodgeball

The Junior Section followed up with an exciting game involving a line of inflatable balls and weighted bags suspended from the ceiling. Each boy attempted to carry a tray of plastic cups from one end of the hall to the other while dodging the objects being swung back and forth by the other team. Once both teams had demonstrated the premise, parents and other members of the audience were invited to have a go.

A Light in the Darkness

The Company Section plunged the hall into darkness for some team games under UV light. Dressed in all white, the boys dazzled the crowds as they competed head to head in a series of physical challenges. The last of which tested each teams’ balance and strength as they knelt on top of each other’s shoulders to form a “pyramid”.

A short video was then played highlighting how Jesus is our only hope of salvation from spiritual darkness.

Award Distribution

Guest speaker, and former Captain of 2nd Ahoghill, Geoffrey Young took to the stage to give his remarks on the night’s activities and to share some memories of his time within the Company. He remained on stage to assist with the award distribution, during which boys were rewarded for their efforts over the past session.
