Clothing & Equipment
Boys should arrive wearing the clothes they will wear on Day 1 of their expedition, with their packed rucksack (or the contents, if they need to borrow a rucksack). Including whatever food is practical to pack for the training night.
The leaders will check their kit and ensure they have all they will need for a successful expedition.
You can download and print the kit list below for guidance.

You should design an expedition menu that thinks about the following:
- Pack as many calories into the least weight/volume possible.
- Aim for 3,000 - 5,000 calories each day, depending on activity.
- Choose foods that are high in sugars, carbohydrates and fats.
- Take food you enjoy, which are easy to cook and will keep for the duration of your expedition, even in hot weather.
- Dried, cured, smoked or vegetarian foods will usually last well.
- Keep weight and litter down by removing packaging at home and cooking as a team.
- Ensure food is packed well and waterproofed so will survive in your rucksack.
- Notify your leaders and group members of any food allergies.
The videos below offers some more information and inspiration.
N.B. The boil in the bag and freeze dried meals mentioned in the video above are expensive and can be replaced by cheaper alternatives found in the supermarket. Microwavable pouches of rice, grains, lentils etc can also be heated by placing them in boiling water.
