National Masterteam 2022/23 – Irish Final

2nd Ahoghill competed against eight Companies from across Northern Ireland as they took part in the Irish Final of this year's national Masterteam competition.

The final took place at Newport, BBNI’s Headquarters in Hillsborough, County Down. The other finalists included 4th Newtownabbey, 1st Ballyclare, 1st Garvagh, 1st Ardstraw, 11th Bangor, 3rd Carrickfergus, 9th Route and 1st Greenisland. The latter two of which we had encountered in our Round 1 group.

The teams were welcomed by David Penney, the Engagement Officer & Training Lead for BBNI. He started the night with a short message based on Matthew 22, and challenged the boys to “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind”.

After a prayer, David passed over to Lewis, our quizmaster for the evening and the quiz got underway.

At this point, there was a short interlude as the boys and leaders were treated to pizza and drinks.

Round 9 – Unique Countries (ending with a given 3 letters)
Round 10 – General Knowledge

Final Scores

Despite a solid start, 2nd Ahoghill gradually slipped down the leaderboard as the quiz progressed. They finished the night in 7th place with 57.5 points.

The winners were 4th Newtownabbey with an impressive 80 points, followed by runners up 11th Bangor on 70 points.

Congratulations to both Companies and all the best as they represent Northern Ireland in the National Finals which will be hosted in Newport on Saturday 25th March 2023.
