Climbing Slemish

News |

The boys and leaders of 2nd Ahoghill Company Section reconnected as they scaled the steep rocky slopes of Slemish.

It was our first physical meeting since our annual display in March 2020, just before COVID-19 restrictions came into effect. The outing gave us an opportunity to catch up with the boys in person and hear how they had adapted to homeschooling and the various other changes lockdown had brought to everyday life.

A gentle breeze kept us cool as we made our ascent up the western face, and the generally clear skies offered fantastic panoramas of the landscape once we reached the summit. After taking in the views and getting a group photo, we walked to the southern end of the mountain to begin a more gentle descent back to the carpark.

All in all, it was a good first outing after such a long time apart. God willing, we will arrange more outdoor activities in the near future.

  • We encounter a frog on our way up the mountain.

  • The view back towards the carpark as we make our ascent.

  • The first group of boys to reach the summit.

  • A group photo at the summit.

  • One of the boys gets a photo of the landscape below.

  • We head back down to the carpark.
