National Masterteam 2018/19 – Irish Final

2nd Ahoghill Company Section competed in the Irish Final of the 2018/19 national Masterteam competition.

The team travelled to host company 1st Granshaw, and were joined by 1st Ardstraw, 100th Belfast, 2nd Comber, 1st Greenisland and 4th Newtownabbey.

The top two teams would progress to the national final in Scotland on 6th April 2019, to take on the highest placed teams from the other UK regions.

The quizmaster for the night was Steven White, with Walter Lambe acting as scorekeeper.

Round 2 – BB Knowledge
Round 3 – Sport
Round 4 – Bridges (Picture Round)
Round 5 – Red
Round 6 – Bible Knowledge
Round 7 – Double Letters
Round 8 – Cat…
Round 9 – Initials
Round 10 – 2018

The boys began a little hesitantly, with fluctuating scores of 4, 7, 6 and 3 in the opening four rounds. However they found their form in the next four rounds with scores of 8, 10, 8 and 10. Interestingly all teams scored full marks in the Bible Knowledge round, as well as Round 8. The boys recorded a solid 7/10 in the last two rounds to finish the quiz with a total of 70 points.

Unfortunately this wasn’t enough to progress to the National Final on , with Newtownabbey and Granshaw claiming first and second place respectively. However the team can be proud of their efforts, finishing fifth out of all competing companies from across the whole of Ireland. Well done boys!

A big thank you to 1st Granshaw for hosting the event and for the refreshments after the quiz, which included a complimentary Dominoes.

Update: 4th Newtownabbey won the National Finals on Saturday 6th April 2019 in Scotland, beating 2nd Gourock, 3rd Gateshead, 1st Guildford, 128th Glasgow and 1st Granshaw.
