2nd Ahoghill Company Section hit the North Coast as we enjoyed a water sports filled weekend at Dunseverick.
We returned to the same plot of land we used during last summer’s camp, and set up our tents before settling down for the night.
The unexpected arrival of a digger on Saturday morning helped us wake nice and early, ready to relocate to Dunseverick harbour ahead of an busy day by the sea.
After parking the cars and eating our breakfast, we launched one of the canoes. However the strong currents dashed any hopes of fishing on the water, and the canoe soon returned to port.
The rest of the morning was spent rock fishing and coasteering in the nearby rock pools, before returning to the car park for lunch. We lit the barbecue and cooked our first catch of the day, a decent sized pollock. Followed by sausages, burgers and a sirloin steak!
After our feast, we returned to the rock pools for the remainder of the afternoon. The fish weren’t showing much interest in our lines, but one of the boys did land another pollock before we had to pack up and head home.
We capped off the weekend as we stopped in Bushmills on the way home, to sample the local cuisine. Enjoying chips from The Cod’s Way as we took in the riverside views.
Thank you to David Stevenson for his help organising our accommodation, and many thanks to Mr & Mrs McCurdy for the use of their land during the camp.
