2nd Ahoghill Company Section spent the day in Ballycastle, climbing Knocklayd in the morning before returning to sea level to pass the afternoon fishing.
We began our climb from the carpark on the south-east corner of Ballycastle forest, and followed the forest trail west to the foot of Knocklayd. The blue skies offered excellent views of Rathlin Island as we made our ascent. We made the most of the windy conditions on the summit as we practised our kite flying skills. After eating our lunch, we retraced our route back to carpark and prepared ourselves for the afternoon of fishing ahead.
Our fishing spot of choice was Pan’s Rock, a rocky outcrop at the far end of Ballycastle Beach. Unfortunately the fish weren’t biting as much as the seaweed, and we failed to match the success of our previous fishing trip. Some of the boys did put a crab net to good use though, capturing a steady supply of crabs from the surrounding rock pools.
After exploring the nearby rocks, we packed up and headed home, following another great day spent in the outdoors.
