2nd Ahoghill Company Section gained some useful first aid knowledge, as Dr Jenalee Kennedy gave a short presentation on Friday night.
The presentation fulfilled the requirements of the Duke of Edinburgh’s expedition first aid syllabus, and covered the various injuries and medical conditions which might be encountered during an expedition.
The training evening was essential for the boys completing their Duke of Edinburgh awards but was open to all boys, particularly those attending our upcoming summer camp in Belgium and France.
The topics covered during the night were-
- Bites and stings
- Minor bleeding
- Bleeding and shock
- Bone, muscle and joint injuries
- Coping in an emergency
- Heat exhaustion
- Hypothermia
- Primary survey
- Recovery position
- Resuscitation
Jenalee finished with the words of Psalm 121: 1-2 –
“…I lift up my eyes to the mountains- where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth”.
Reminding us that no matter what situation we might find ourselves in, we should always remember to look to God for help to overcome.
Many thanks to Jenalee for taking the time to share her knowledge and experience with us throughout the night’s presentation.
