2nd Ahoghill Company Section were officially enrolled as members of the Boys' Brigade, during our annual enrolment service in Brookside Presbyterian Church this morning.
The service began at the earlier time of 11:30am, after the church recently moved their morning service forward half an hour. Those in attendance were welcomed at the doors by Company Section members, Alex Hill and Ross McGeekin.
Rev. William Moody led the service, which included a bible reading by Andrew Gilmore, and the collection of offering by Adam and Andrew Millar.
Each year, before the act of enrolment; one of the sections in the company participates in the service. This year was the turn of the Company Section, and we thought it would be fitting to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War.
Several of the boys in the company had helped produce a short documentary video, providing voice overs to accompany footage and photography of the conflict. The video presentation was introduced by Adam Millar, who provided a brief epilogue and message of remembrance afterwards.
This year six leaders were enrolled within the Company Section. William Young continued in his role as Leader in Charge, with Thomas Clarke and Ryan Young continuing as Lieutenants. Jonathan McCartney and Richard Cromie remained as Warrant Officers, while Jonathan Clarke was enrolled as a leader.
This year’s non-commissioned officers included Adam Millar and Andrew Millar who were promoted to the position of Lance Corporal; Joshua Loughridge continued in his position as Sergeant.
Overall 18 boys were enrolled in the Company Section for the 2014/15 session, with several others unable to attend. This continues the recent trend of healthy numbers within the section, and provides plenty of encouragement for the officers.
