Company leaders Jonathan McCartney, Ryan Young and Thomas Clarke concluded their Expedition & Outdoor Leadership training this weekend with a short hike in the Antrim Hills.
After the initial training weekend in April was cut short due to poor weather, another training day had been arranged for Saturday 8th June.
We met with the other course members and instructors on Saturday morning around 10am, at St Killian’s College on the outskirts of Carnlough. As most of the theory had been covered in the original training weekend, the day took the form of a ‘Walk & Talk’.
This involved a short hike around Knockore in the Antrim Hills, interspersed with several discussions about potential scenarios that could arise on an expedition and how best to deal with them.
Having completed their training, Jonathan, Ryan and Tommy are now eligible to progress to the Expedition & Outdoor Leadership Training Level 1 Assessment Weekend in September 2013.
